To enter the Content Manager to ADD, EDIT, or DELETE categories and pages, make note of the username & password provided.
- Then click on the "To Add or Edit pages Click Here" hyper-link.
- Fill in the secure form:
- username: (example-cat)
- (this takes you to the category module of the Content Manager)
- password: (yourpassword)
NOTE: Categories WILL NOT show until a page is added to its Category.
FIRST, YOU MUST CREATE CATEGORIES.
To begin, Click on the “Edit Categories” on the left NavBar.
PROCEDURE:
Click on “Add New”. In the form:
- Category Name - Type in one to two words that describe your page
- Optional, Add a short description of what this Category is about; two or three sentences.
- File Name - Use fully qualified and DISTINCT name, NO spaces, lower case (ie. mypage.html)
- Optional - Hide from website Check Box allows you to NOT have this category show on the NavBar
- Active Or Inactive - Click A: to make your website active. Click I: to make your website Inactive while developing, building a new page.
- Sort Order - Type in a number or Text to create a sort order for this page to be listed in the NavBar.
Note: It is a good idea to use large numbers like 10, 20, 30, etc. so that you can come back later and add pages in between pages without having to renumber every page. If listing products or services by name, you can place a single word (instead of a number) to sort the pages by name alphabetically.
- Click SAVE.
Continue adding as many Categories as you need.
Note they will NOT show until pages are added to them.
SECOND, ADDING PAGES TO EACH CATEGORY
Next, Click “Edit Links” on the left NavBar
- A screen will open showing you three options:
- Add New (top right)
- Edit (this is not available until you have added pages)
- Delete (this is not available until you have added pages)
PROCEDURE:
Click on Add New. A form will open that has several fields (not all of which are needed for single pages)
- URL Address - Filling in a URL address will cause a new webpage to open at the address. Leaving it blank will give you the option of creating your own webpage.
- Link Title - Type in one to two words +/- that describe your page for the NavBar
- File Name - Use fully qualified and DISTINCT name, NO spaces, lower case (mypage.html)
- Link Category - Use this pull down menu to select the Category this new page goes with.
- Link Description - Type in a short 2 or 3 sentence description of what will be found on this page.
- Thumbnail Image - With Categories you can upload thumbnails for each listing. These thumbnails should all be the same size under a specific Category. I have found the 75px x 75px works well. Also, I have used 150px wide x 100px high for all of my Portfolio thumbnails. Keep them all the same size.
- Make this a page - Check This Box
- Hide from Website - Page will not show on NavBar
- Page Content - This is where your page content is placed. Use the Tool Bar to add formatting. By placing your mouse over an icon and waiting a moment, the attributes will be displayed.
Note: Headings have Special programming for the search engines to do formatting. Use the pull down menu in the lower left of the Tool Bar; labeled "Default" or "Format". Highlight your Heading and select the size Heading you would like from the pull down menu. When you save your page, the Heading will have color and formatting. Very cool feature.
